Henry Smith Charity

The Henry Smith Charity is one of the largest independent grant makers in the UK and distributed over £30million in 2017. The Charity aims to bring about lasting change to people’s lives, helping them to benefit from and contribute to society.

Leith Walk Primary School in Edinburgh received a grant of £2,500 towards a four night trip to an outdoor learning centre for a group of disadvantaged children from Edinburgh.

Foyle Foundation

The Foyle Foundation is an independent grant making trust that distributes grants to UK charities and not for profit organisations whose work is in the areas of Learning, the Arts and Health. Within its Learning remit funding is available to meet special educational needs and learning difficulties.

The Kingfisher Community Special School, Oldham received a grant of £15,000 towards equipping an arts studio in this special school for children with severe and complex learning difficulties including autism.

The John Lyon's Charity

The John Lyon's Charity gives grants to groups and organisations for the benefit of children and young adults who are resident in the London boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Kensington and Chelsea, City of London and the City of Westminster. Since 1992 the Charity has distributed some £30 million at an average of £17,000 per grant to a wide range of services for young people, including youth clubs, arts projects, counselling, child care and parental support schemes, sports and academic bursaries and scholarships.

Kingsgate Community College received a grant of £15,000 pa for three years towards the running costs of an Arts Programme.

BBC Children in Need

Through the BBC Children in Need Grants Programme, funding is available to organisations and schools that work with young people who are suffering from illness; distress; abuse or neglect; are disabled; have behavioural or psychological difficulties; or are living in poverty or situations of deprivation.

Boundary Community School in London received a grant of £9,969 to provide supplementary maths and English homework support and holiday sessions for children and young people from  Bangladeshi and Somali families in Tower Hamlets. It will improve peer relationships and improve confidence.

Ernest Cook Trust

The Ernest Cook Trust (ECT) gives grants to registered charities, schools and not-for-profit organisations wishing to encourage young people's interest either in the countryside and the environment or the arts (in the broadest sense) or aiming to raise levels of literacy and numeracy. In 2008/09, the ECT Trustees gave £1.7m to support over 450 educational projects. A large grants programme for awards of over £4,000 and a small grants programme for awards of under £4,000 operate throughout the year.

Norbury Manor Primary School, Croydon received a grant of £2,165 from the Trust to cover the cost of resources for outdoor learning.
